GETTING THE GIG...and looking like it isn't your first!

GETTING THE GIG...and looking like it isn't your first (with Joe Coyle)
Tuesdays, September 9 - October 28, 2008
6:00 - 9:30 p.m. (8 weeks)

Getting the Gig...and looking like it isn't your first An 8 week intensive on-camera workshop to prepare the actor for working on a film or television set.  In addition to shooting scenes from original scripts, students will also learn industry etiquette and terminology such as 'on the day', 'golden time', and 'magic hour'; how a scene is shot; how to complete industry paperwork; and a who's who on the set.  A film or television set is a world unlike any other and Joe Coyle has been there as an extra, stand-in, principal performer, writer, director, and producer.  At the end of this workshop you will know what to expect so you won't have to hear on your first day to the set, "What are you, new?"

WHO:
- If you are a trained actor over 18 and ready to work, or you ever thought "I wonder what happens when I get the gig?"

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
- In each class you will shoot an entire scene (master, overs, close-ups) of prepared materials for TV and Film...just like "on the day" (production term for when we are shooting).
- The most important thing to remember when going into an audition (besides the lines)
- How a scene is shot - master, coverage, push-ins, dolly moves, hand held, steadicam
- What to do when the Second 2nd (who is that?) tells you to "sign the G" (huh?)
- Terminology - such as what is the difference between 'golden time' and 'magic hour
- Paperwork - call sheet, start work papers, voucher, sides, etc. What to sign and why
- Crew positions and why you should learn to love the First AC and Second Team as much as the Best Boy and Crafty

THINGS YOU WILL GET:
- Chance to read TV, film, and commercial scripts each week on camera
- Visits from writers, directors, producers, and/or crew members who have worked with Joe
- Joe will edit your scene and give you a DVD copy for a nominal fee if you so desire

WHEN:
- Tuesdays, September 9 - October 28, 2008, 6:00 p.m - 9:30 p.m.

WHERE:
- Donna Belajac Casting, 109 Market Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15222

REGISTRATION:

Casting Call for Short Film

A Point Park University student is producing a short film during the fall semester.  Shooting will begin October and continue into early November.  Shoots will be during the weekend and should take 2-3 weekends to complete.  Auditions will be held in the early weeks of September.

The film is about a man, Vic, that has to help his friend, Marty, keep a secret.  Marty comes out of the closet to Vic on the golf course and needs him to entertain his secret lover for the day.  This is an ABSURD comedy that follows two extremely different ways of life clashing.

There are 3 main roles:

VIC, late 30ʼs-early 40ʼs, strong tough country man that prides his reputation and material possessions, but must change his mindset and embrace humility to help a friend in need.

MARTY, late 30ʼs-early 40ʼs, weaker man who canʼt stand up for himself all the time.  Lives a secret life and depends on his friend to help him through it.

SECRET LOVER, mid 20ʼs- early 40ʼs, an extremely absurd and flamboyant representation of a narrow-minded Americanʼs view of the homosexual community.  Not afraid to be exciting and embrace himself.

There are also many supporting roles that exist in this film:

Father DelFeeni, the local priest.

Bill, a Diner owner.

Kathy, Vicʼs wife.

Martyʼs wife.

Scoutmaster, Boy Scout troop leader, early 50ʼs.

The film will be shot using HD equipment and copies of the film will be provided to all cast members upon completion of the project..  Meals will also provided on set each day of filming.
