The Pittsburgh Film Office started in 1990 to promote the greater southwestern Pennsylvania region as a great location for movie, television and commercial productions. Since its inception, the PFO has brought more than 64 motion pictures and television productions to southwestern Pennsylvania to generate an economic impact of more than $273 million for the region.  Some of the recent productions include:  The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, Smart People, The Bridge to Nowhere, the Spike TV series The Kill Point, Adventureland, Homecoming, Zack & Miri Make a Porno, The Road, She's Out of My League, Shelter, Hollywood and Wine and My Bloody Valentine 3-D.

The feature film Shannon's Rainbow is currently shooting in the region. 

The feature film In NorthWood (formerly Fleas) will start production soon.

To facilitate filming in the Pittsburgh area, the PFO provides information on the region, locations, vendors and crew; and coordinates government and business offices in support of a production. It also serves as a conduit for information, providing assistance to local filmmakers and the local film industry throughout the region.
